Montmartre… the very name conjures up images of penniless artists and steep winding streets, weather-beaten windmills and timeless cafes, and… they are still there!
Set on a hill 130 meters high, the area of Montmartre looks grandly out over all of Paris. The end of the 19th century saw Montmartre become the center of artistic life in Paris and the model of a free, bohemian existence. Many artists, from Berlioz to Picasso, lived, worked, and played here. These creative spirits helped keep this area the city’s intellectual and artistic center, right up until the First World War.
Today Montmarte has a village and artist spirit and offers many opportunities for photographers. Romantic stairways, artists at work, small cabarets where famous painters met with their friends, and cobble stone streets set the stage for this photo tour. After some time around some of the main site, we explore some little known corners of the hill away from the crowds.
We will finish up, at the stunning Sacré Coeur and its panoramic view of Paris and afterwards you can go to a typical bistro in the artists square Place du Tertre for a glass of wine and maybe a bite to eat.
